Veterans’ Day, originally Armistice Day…is the day we get the opportunity to say thank you to those who gave so much of themselves so that we could enjoy the freedoms we experience every day. Take the time to thank a Veteran. Whether you buy that person a cup of coffee, a drink, dessert, or just say THANK YOU, you will touch their heart. Most will reply, as I do, with something on the order of “It was an honor and privilege to serve.”
We all experienced different things within the service, some funny, some boring, some exciting, and others traumatic. If you are close to a Veteran, you understand this. If you are not, understand that the Veteran will share what they are comfortable sharing. Don’t press; give them the opportunity to say what they want.
A lot of today’s Veterans face a myriad of challenges, including unemployment, homelessness, and high suicide rates. Bear this in mind when you see a Veteran. You support to end any of these challenging issues is greatly appreciated.
So today, when you see that older person with a hat or shirt showing of his or her service, say “THANK YOU…We appreciate what you have done for us.”
